National Research Technological University "MISiS"

NUST MISIS is a technological university that trains specialists in the following fields: materials science, mining, metallurgy, biomaterials, nanotechnology, economics, management, IT technologies.

The history of the National Research Technological University "MISiS" began more than a hundred years ago, when the Moscow Mining Academy was established in 1918, where the metallurgical department was opened. The university was constantly expanding, and already in 1921 the departments were transformed into universities, and by 1930 the academy was divided into six independent institutes. To date, three of them — the Institute of Steel, non-ferrous Metals and the Mining Institute have again merged into one educational institution — the National Research Technological University "MISIS".

In 1948, the university opened the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry, which trained famous "secret physicists" for research organizations, the nuclear and defense industries. In 1962, the Faculty of Semiconductor Materials and Devices was opened, after which the university was renamed the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys.

In the 1960s and 80s, there was an active growth and a surge of interest in the exact and natural sciences throughout the country. At that time, the scientific school was finally formed at MISIS, which was, and still remains one of the best in the country, being competitive both in Russia and around the world.

Scientists of NUST MISIS are recognized all over the world, and compete on an equal footing with professors and teachers of the largest scientific centers of the world. Today, a large number of world-renowned scientists work at NUST MISIS.

In 2000, the Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys became a laureate of the Russian Government Award in the field of quality of education.

On October 7, 2008, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, MISIS became the first Russian university to receive the status of a "National Research Technological University".

In 2020, NUST MISIS has already taken the 428th place in the QS World University Rankings, having risen by 322 lines of the rating since 2014.

NUST MISIS and Sberbank have signed a cooperation agreement, approving the roadmap until 2024, which consists of 10 projects and involves joint training of bachelors and masters, the opening of a service robotics laboratory at the university and conducting joint scientific research.

NUST MISIS has received a mega-grant from the Government of the Russian Federation for the creation of an innovative laboratory "Functional Quantum Materials" under the supervision of Professor of experimental Physics at Heidelberg University Rüdiger Klingeler. In total, NUST MISIS has 6 laboratories created at the expense of megagrants.

The Center for Industrial Design and Innovation 2050 has been opened on the basis of the High-Complexity Prototyping Engineering Center. LAB for the purpose of implementing development work for enterprises of the transport and machine-building complex of Russia, including by order of JSC Transmashholding.

Five researchers of NUST MISIS were among the laureates of the annual Award of the Moscow Government for young scientists in the field of science and innovation. The university's scientists have been the winners of the competition every year since 2016.

For the first time, the university's admission campaign was completely held in an online format and became the most successful in recent years. If in 2012 the average score of the Unified State Exam at NUST MISIS was 67.3 points, then according to the results of the admission campaign-2020, it increased to 88.4. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation recognized the graduate student of NUST MISIS Elizaveta Permyakova as the best of more than 185 thousand graduates of Moscow universities in 2020.
